CHICAGO (May 10, 2022) — We’re not ‘lion’! Chicago’s favorite, friendly race is less than one month away. On June 5, Lincoln Park Zoo’s 44th annual Run for the Zoo returns in person, uniting the zoo community in its longtime tradition and raising funds to support animal care and wildlife conservation.
Participants can choose between chip-timed 5K and 10K courses that are flat and suited to all abilities. Those partaking in the race will enjoy beautiful views of Chicago’s skyline, Lake Michigan, protected natural areas, zoo animals, and ‘roaring’ spectators along the way. For kids between ages 3-8, the Kids’ Course engages children in a fun obstacle course.
Registration is open for the 5K run/walk, 10K run, and the Kids’ Course. All proceeds from the race help keep Lincoln Park Zoo free and open to all, as well as support the zoo’s world-class animal care and global conservation efforts.
“Run for the Zoo is a beloved, longtime tradition for many Chicagoans and the perfect way to kick off the summertime,” said Meg Hein, events manager. “Participants can connect with nature and the community all while supporting Chicago’s free zoo. We hope to welcome back this event’s longtime supporters, as well as many new faces this year”.
After the race, participants can partake in a fun and inclusive post-race celebration. All participants also receive unique swag including a commemorative tech t-shirt that connects them to a longtime tradition. Participants in the zoo’s 10K run, 5K run, or 5K walk have opportunities to score fun zoo prizes, including memberships to Lincoln Park Zoo, tickets to Summer Wine Fest, a unique ZooLights Presented by ComEd and Invesco QQQ experience in 2022, and more.
Participants and supporters who donate or fundraise a minimum of $25 will earn a commemorative supporter medal. Top individual fundraisers, donors, and teams will have the chance to win two round-trip United Airlines coach tickets and tickets to upcoming popular zoo events.
Race options vary in price, starting at $39 for the 5K run/walk, $44 for the 10k run, and $25 for the Kids’ Course. For those unable to join the zoo in-person, a virtual 5K/10K option is available. Lincoln Park Zoo members receive a $5 discount on the 5K and 10K packages. Membership options are available at lpzoo.org/membership.
The community event relies on nearly 270 volunteers! To learn more about race-day volunteer opportunities and benefits, email email@example.com.
