Zoo Club is a free opportunity for teens to engage with Lincoln Park Zoo remotely while building animal care, community-building, and conservation skills. Zoo Club’s digital sessions connect students with zoo experts, allow them to practice new skills, and help them meet other conservation-minded teens. Participants receive digital badges that qualify them to earn zoo rewards and will benefit them if they apply to other teen programs at the zoo.
To qualify, an applicant must:
- Be a teenager
- Have access to an internet-connected device
- Complete the registration form
- After completing the registration form, applicants will be asked to submit a permission slip from a parent or guardian.
During Zoo Club, participants will:
- Chat with zoo staff, including zookeepers, horticulturists, and scientists
- Hear from zoo teen programs alumni about college and career advice
- Discuss hot topics in environmental news and sustainable travel
- Hang out with fun games, like zoo trivia
- Collect data about urban wildlife through bioblitzes
- A lot more!
Zoo Club sessions typically take place from 4–5 p.m. CT on Tuesdays and Thursdays from September to March. Other sessions may be scheduled throughout the season, but the program has no attendance requirements and sessions are always voluntary. Participants will leave each session with some new knowledge or skill.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I participate if I don’t live in Chicago?
Yes! One of the advantages of online sessions is meeting teens from all over the place. Teens from all over the world are welcome to participate!
How will Lincoln Park Zoo communicate with me/my teen?
Email will be used for awarding badges and important communication about zoo policy. Reminders will be used for announcements about session schedules.
How can I find out when sessions are being offered?
At the beginning of each month, we will distribute a calendar. Some events may be added throughout the month as opportunities arise; for example, visiting scientists sometimes give lectures that this group could also attend. If sessions are added, we will distribute a new calendar. We will also send out a reminder announcement before every session.
How should I request accommodations?
Lincoln Park Zoo is committed to working with participants and their families to create an environment where all participants, with and without disabilities, engage in programs together. To discuss accommodations, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
What do I need to participate?
Since these sessions are all digital, you will need an internet connection and a device to connect (either a cell phone, tablet, or computer). Some sessions may be best experienced with both a laptop and a cell phone, but two devices are not required. You will also need to submit a permission slip signed by a parent/legal guardian to complete your enrollment.
