About

As an undergraduate at Providence College, Laura spent a summer studying the spatial variation in the parasite communities and genomic structure of rats in New York City. She also spent a semester abroad in South Africa studying elephant watering hole usage.

After graduating, Laura interned at the Bronx Zoo and Maritime Aquarium, and traveled back to South Africa to work as a research assistant at the Ann Van Dyk Cheetah Centre. In 2021, Laura received her master’s degree under the advisement of Dr. Christopher Schmitt, Ph.D., at Boston University. Her thesis investigated factors affecting post-release survival rates and welfare of rehabilitated and released vervet monkeys in Malawi, using data provided by the Lilongwe Wildlife Trust.

Laura joined the team at Lincoln Park Zoo in 2022 as a research assistant for the Project ChimpCARE Welfare Assessment Initiative.
