Lincoln Park Zoo offers a variety of programs specifically for teens. Ever wondered what it’s like to work at a zoo? Enjoy teaching others? Then we have the program for you!

The application for summer 2024 programs opens February 1 and closes March 11. No applications will be accepted after the March 11 deadline. Visit this link to apply!

Applicants can apply to multiple programs simultaneously. Please note: Eligibility requirements vary between programs.

 

Summer Opportunities

Malott Family Zoo Intern Program

Chicago high school students, ages 15–18, work as on-grounds interpreters to inform the public about animal science and conservation. Teens also work on independent projects during this educational seven-week paid internship. Applicants must be entering grades 10–12 or their freshman year of college.

Malott Family Research Apprenticeship Program

Chicago high school students, ages 16–18, spend seven weeks working alongside zoo researchers and engaging in authentic scientific research during this educational, paid apprenticeship. Applicants must be entering grades 11–12 or their freshman year of college.

Camp Teen Volunteer

Chicago high school students, ages 13–18, spend five weeks assisting with running Conservation Camp for grades PreK–8. This is an unpaid, service-learning opportunity for students entering grades 9–12 or their freshman year of college.

Opportunities During the School Year

ZooClub (Online)

Zoo Club is a free opportunity for teens to engage with Lincoln Park Zoo remotely. Stay connected to Lincoln Park Zoo while building skills in care, community, and conservation! Zoo Club meets twice a month from September–April and is open to students from around the world.

Conservation Ambassadors Board

Share zoo conservation work by planning special events for your peers. This program is a full school-year commitment, with members meeting two Saturdays a month from September–May. Students in grades 9–12 may apply in August.
