Take Action With Us: Spring Migration

April 1, 2021

Spring is in the air and so are the birds! Spring migration has begun, and birds are busy on their journey.

Every year, millions of birds die after crashing into closed windows during their trip. How can you help ensure that migrating birds have a safe passage? Check out the tips, below, and be a part of their safe passageway!

To make the trip easier for migrating birds, Take Action With Us and live wildlife friendly (through May) by:

  • Turning off lights in empty rooms, especially at night
  • Removing houseplants away from windowsills
  • Closing blinds at least 3/4 of the way to help birds see the window
  • Marking large panes of glass with tape, stickers, soap, or window clings

Here at Lincoln Park Zoo, you will spot soaped panes of glass, as well as window clings, around zoo grounds to protect migrating birds.

In need of window clings? You can make your own by printing out the zoo’s window decal stencil! Print out the stencil, cut out the bird shape, and use it to trace a flock of birds. Be sure to tape them to your window no more than 2 inches apart.

This spring, live wildlife friendly and help protect migrating birds.
