Lie back, relax, and sink into an immersive sonic landscape with sound meditation facilitator Jay Taylor. This interactive experience is an opportunity to practice self-care in a welcoming environment with intention-setting, singing bowls, light guided breathing, and deep relaxation.

Event Details

Sound Meditation is for ages 16+. It is recommended for guests who can be peaceful and still for up to 60 minutes. No specific training or beliefs are required to participate and benefit from this event.

For the best possible experience, bring anything you will need to get comfortable on the ground—a mat, blanket, pillow, eye covering, etc.—and wear comfortable clothing.

All sessions will run for 60 minutes from 9–10 a.m. If possible, plan to arrive by 8:45 a.m. to set up your space and be ready to begin by 8:55 a.m. Gates to the zoo will open at 8 a.m., and doors to Pepper Family Wildlife Center will open at 8:30 a.m. Note that Peoples Gas Education Pavilion is an outdoor space.

Breathe in some fresh morning air and gaze at skyline views in this iconic pavilion, designed by Jeanne Gang and inspired by a turtle shell. Sound Meditation sessions will take place at this location on these dates:

What are the age restrictions for this event?

This experience is for ages 16+ and recommended for guests who can be peaceful and still for up to 60 minutes.

My plans changed and I can no longer attend. Can I transfer my tickets or get a refund? What happens if it rains?

All Lincoln Park Zoo event tickets are nonrefundable and not transferable to another event. If you are not able to make it, feel free to give your ticket to a friend or family member age 16 or older.

All events will be held rain or shine. Depending on weather conditions, sessions slated to take place outdoors at People’s Gas Education Pavilion (in June, July, and August) may be moved indoors to Pepper Family Wildlife Center.

How do I enter the event and can I re-enter once checked in?

For May, September, and October sessions: Enter the zoo at the East Gate on Cannon Drive and Fullerton Parkway (in the zoo’s parking lot) or the West Gate at Stockton Drive and Webster Drive. Proceed through Main Mall to Pepper Family Wildlife Center and be prepared to show your ticket on the east side of the building. Tickets can be scanned on your smartphone or on a printed sheet of paper.

For June, July, and August sessions: People’s Gas Education Pavilion is accessible from Nature Boardwalk in the South Pond area. From the parking lot, head down the Nature Boardwalk path toward Lester E. Fisher Bridge and enter from either side of the Pavilion. Be prepared to show your ticket. Tickets can be scanned on your smartphone or on a printed sheet of paper.

Re-entry is not permitted.

Is parking available?

Paid parking is available at the zoo’s parking lot located at Fullerton Parkway and Cannon Drive (2400 N. Cannon Drive). The zoo is also accessible by train via the Armitage and Fullerton stations and by bus via the 22, 36, 151, and 156 routes. It is recommended for rideshares to drop off and pick up guests outside the zoo’s West Gate at Stockton Drive and Webster Drive.

Do I need to print my ticket?

Nope! For the most efficient experience, please have your ticket ready on your smartphone. All guests must show their ticket for entry.

Will I see animals?

Hopefully! Most outdoor and indoor habitats will be open for viewing. However, all animals have the choice to be in view of guests or behind the scenes.

What can’t I bring to Sound Meditation?

Please make note of the below items that are restricted for this event:

NO OUTSIDE FOOD OR BEVERAGES
No filled reusable water bottles or beverage containers
No folding chairs
No luggage of any kind
No animals (with the exception of service animals)
No coolers (unless medically required)
No illegal substances
No noisemakers or balloons
No Segways or motorized scooters
No thermal containers
No weapons
No remote-controlled aircrafts or drones
No items deemed dangerous or inappropriate

Alcohol purchased outside the zoo is prohibited, and we ask that you refrain from smoking tobacco and cannabis inside the gates for the health and safety of animals and visitors. Lincoln Park Zoo’s Code of Conduct can be found here.

For the safety of our visitors, staff, and animals, all bags, purses, strollers, packages, and other items carrying personal belongings are subject to inspection upon entry to Lincoln Park Zoo.

Meet the Facilitator

Meditation facilitator Jay Taylor began exploring the field of sound meditation in 2018. Since then, he has facilitated over 2,000 meditation experiences in many diverse spaces, including the Chicago Botanic Garden, The Morton Arboretum, Navy Pier, Northwestern University’s Pritzker School of Law, Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, the University of Chicago, Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, and Northwestern Memorial Hospital. In 2020, Jay co-founded the Ahimsa School of Sound Healing, which is dedicated to empowering people to express and support themselves through the playing of instruments.
