Jamie’s interest in zoological institutions began during her undergraduate study when she interned at Lincoln Park Zoo. She worked at Regenstein Center for African Apes where she helped on the Ape Behavioral Monitoring and Space Use Project and Project ChimpCARE (Communication, Advocacy, Research, and Education). Jamie also studied abroad in Guyana, South America, where she worked closely with the Makushi tribe. She helped the tribe’s medicine men and women develop their first catalog of medicinal plants, worked with teachers to create lesson plans to improve literacy through environmental education, and facilitated village meetings to discuss the tribe’s impact on the environment. After graduation, Jamie joined the Conservation Camp team at Lincoln Park Zoo as a camp instructor, teaching elementary-level students about animal behavior and adaptations. Jamie is enthusiastic about educating people on the importance and benefits of environmental advocacy.
