Mike also works with other departments and organizations accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) on maintaining optimal animal welfare and sustainable populations. Actively involved in AZA programs, he is the Species Survival Plan® (SSP) coordinator for Nile lechwe, a vice-chair of the Antelope and Giraffe Taxon Advisory Groups, and a steering committee member for the African Painted Dog SSP. Mike is also active with Polar Bears International, helping to facilitate action on climate change conservation.
