Lisa has spent more than a decade co-creating programs and services with Chicago communities. Her work is inspired by years of experience building authentic relationships within neighborhoods and connecting individuals across different sectors and communities. Lisa believes that strong community engagement is built on a foundation of respect and building trust with all community stakeholders.
Prior to her work with Lincoln Park Zoo, Lisa helped start a nonprofit organization in Chicago’s Little Village community. Within this organization, she served in various roles, including caseworker, associate director, and interim executive director. Lisa’s background studying public relations, Spanish, and non-profit management allowed her to help the organization achieve its vision of accompanying community members to utilize vital services throughout Chicago.
Lisa brought this passion for community building when she began her work with Lincoln Park Zoo in 2016. She currently serves as the director of community engagement. As field director, Lisa has built partnerships with leaders across multiple Chicago communities to achieve community goals and co-create truly meaningful conservation programming. Her community engagement experience was acknowledged by Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot in 2019 when Lisa was asked to serve on the mayor’s environment transition committee.
