About

Elizabeth is an associate professor of psychology and a member of the Biological Foundations of Behavior Program at Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, PA, USA. Her research focuses on behavioral development and the intersection of health and behavior in wild chimpanzees, as well as social learning and tool use in a variety of primate species. She recently marked her 20th year studying chimpanzees in Gombe National Park.

As an adjunct scientist with the Lester E. Fisher Center for the Study and Conservation of Apes, Elizabeth collaborates with zoo researchers to study ape conservation and culture in the Republic of Congo’s Goualougo Triangle. She also continues to study tool use and cognition at Lincoln Park Zoo’s Regenstein Center for African Apes.

Elizabeth is also a National Geographic Emerging Explorer; a member of the Board of Directors for Chimp Haven, the National Chimpanzee Sanctuary; and the former vice president for Education and Outreach at the International Primatological Society. In addition, she serves on the Membership and Finance Committee of the American Society of Primatologists.
