Learn about endangered species and how you can make a difference with Lincoln Park Zoo on Friday, May 15. Through free activities and programs, you can learn about the zoo’s work to support endangered species and the Association for Zoos and Aquariums’ Saving Animals From Extinction (SAFE) programs.

Endangered Species Day Schedule

10 a.m.–noon Scavenger Hunt and Take-home Art Activity, Main Mall
Stop by to start your fun morning of crafting and discovery.

10 a.m.–noon Monarch Butterfly SAFE and Milkweed Seed Giveaway, Main Mall
Find out about monarch butterflies and the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ Saving Animals From Extinction program.

10 a.m.–noon Meet a Scientist, Main Mall
Learn how Lincoln Park Zoo supports the recovery of endangered species around the world.

10 a.m.–1 p.m. Membership and Adopt an Animal Table, Main Mall
Join, renew, or pick up a plush Adopt package to support the mission of the zoo.

10:30–11:15 a.m. Chicago Public Library Story Time, outside near south rhino habitat at Regenstein African Journey
Listen to a story and watch out for Hazina, the eastern black rhino calf!

1 p.m. Ape Cognition and Care Demonstration, Regenstein Center for African Apes
Learn about chimpanzees and Lincoln Park Zoo’s involvement in the chimpanzee SAFE program.

2 p.m. Penguin Feeding, Robert and Mayari Pritzker Penguin Cove
Learn about the African penguin colony during this narrated demonstration.

Zoo-ologie

You can also celebrate Endangered Species Day by attending Zoo-ologie, hosted by Lincoln Park Zoo’s Auxiliary Board. At this unforgettable evening cocktail party, you’ll help your favorite animals while tasting bites from Chicago’s most exciting restaurants, enjoying an open bar, and dancing the night away.
