Summer – Hybrid BioBlitz

Summer – Hybrid BioBlitz

Friday, August 18 and Saturday, August 196–7 p.m. Free

Overview

Join us for a Summer Hybrid BioBlitz in partnership with the City Nature Challenge! The purpose of a BioBlitz is to get an overall count of the flora and fauna that live in a particular area.

The City Nature Challenge is a worldwide competition to see which city’s residents can observe the most species. Help Chicago take the No. 1 spot by getting outside to observe the plants and animals in your area.

Anyone can join! Individuals, families, or groups of friends will learn how to become citizen scientists from Lincoln Park Zoo’s experts on the Urban Wildlife Institute (UWI), Horticulture, and Learning teams.

Activities

  • Work with our UWI team to discover which animals to look for and how to find them.
  • Learn from our Horticulture team what plants you can find this season and how to identify them in their many stages.
  • Receive training on the iNaturalist app to help you catalog your findings and identify species.
  • Hear from like-minded people about their experience with BioBlitzes and discover new natural areas near you.
  • Share findings and amazing photos.
