    Pens, often containing sties, muddy puddles in which pigs wallow.

  • Niche

    Pigs, also known as hogs, are omnivores, eating everything from grains to greens to table scraps. Lacking sweat glands, pigs wallow (coat themselves in mud) in order to protect their sensitive skin from the sun.

  • Life History

    Pigs are believed to have been domesticated from wild boar as early as 9000 BC

  • Special Adaptations

    A well-developed sense of smell enables pigs to detect food buried in soil.
