Zoo Ball Memories and Thank Yous
It’s been about a week since Zoo Ball 2011 and the fond memories are still fresh. Nearly a 1,000 guests joined us at Hollywood & Vines on the zoo’s Main Mall, where we dined, danced and had a blast while raising some $1.1 million for Lincoln Park Zoo’s animals and programs.
My heartfelt thanks go out to the Lincoln Park Zoo Women’s Board, who once again created a magical evening. I’d also like to thank presenting sponsor Guggenheim and sponsors BMW and J.N. Pritzker Tawani Foundation. We couldn’t have done it without your support.
Zoo Ball garnered attention in local media, including a fun piece in Candace Jordan’s social blog, which you can see here. (I’m not mentioning Candace’s blog solely because she called me “charming.”) The Sun-Times also recapped Zoo Ball on Monday, labeling it “one of the summer’s most hotly anticipated events.”
In other zoo news, we’ve welcomed a few new animals to the collection, including the Sichuan takin bull that recently complemented the three females at the Antelope & Zebra Area. The burly newcomer is being slowly introduced to the herd—he’s housed in an adjacent exhibit where the takins can see, smell and hear one another before being physically introduced.
It should be interesting to monitor how this introduction goes. As always, I’ll keep you posted.
Sincerely,
Kevin Bell
