8:30 a.m. 10K Run
10 a.m. Safari Stampede
We will have 5K and 10K divisions for participants. Please line up in the division for the race in which you are registered. Signage will direct participants to their designated division. Bibs will also be color-coordinated to indicate which participants are in which division.
5K Run/Walk Start Information
United Run for the Zoo will utilize a modified wave start for the 5K. A wave start consists of many staggered starts of small groups instead of one giant start for all participants. Each wave has its own start with a short time interval between each wave. This ensures a much less congested race route. In short, a wave start creates a safer, more efficient experience for all participants. Please arrive at the starting area early, and line up near your projected pace.
Pace signage will line the west side of the start line and be categorized by estimated goal pace below:
As the start time approaches, volunteers will separate participants with pennant flagging into smaller waves. Please be mindful and courteous to the volunteers as they separate participants. Remember, your time does not start until you cross the starting line.
10K Start Information
The 10K race will have one start and no waves.
Both USATF-certified 5K and 10K courses are scheduled to start on Stockton Drive and Webster Avenue at the zoo’s West Gate.
The USATF-certified 10K starts outside the zoo’s West Gate and heads north along the Lakefront Trail to Belmont Harbor Drive. It loops back around, passing Diversey Harbor and the east side of the zoo before returning north through Nature Boardwalk and zoo grounds, finishing on the Main Mall.
The USATF-certified 5K Run/Walk starts outside the zoo’s West Gate, enters the Conservatory Gate, and heads south through zoo grounds and Lincoln Park. It loops back around, flanking the east side of the zoo and Nature Boardwalk before reentering the zoo and finishing on the Main Mall. Walkers will be corralled behind runners.
The Safari Stampede mini obstacle course will be held on the South Lawn, near Park Place Café inside the Lincoln Park Zoo gates.
No dogs are allowed on course. Strollers are welcome, but runners with strollers must start at the back of the heat.
The Safari Stampede is a mini obstacle course for kids to express their inner animal! Children ages 8 and under can participate in the Safari Stampede, located on the South Lawn near Park Place Café. Registration fee required; includes a special event participation shirt! This event SOLD OUT two months early last year and is capped at 250 registrants, so register early!
We need 200+ volunteers to make this event successful! Volunteer positions include Packet Pick-Up, Finish Line, Course, Water Stations and more. Volunteers will receive a special Lincoln Park Zoo shirt. If you are interested in volunteering, please call 312-742-2124 or email email@example.com. Bring a friend!
All participants receive a shirt with registration. Tech shirts will be offered in men’s and women’s sizing once again for all 5K and 10K participants. Safari Stampede T-shirts are unisex and available in youth small, medium, large and adult XS sizes. Sorry, no T-shirt exchanges!
