Adnana Saric meets all the criteria for being one of Lincoln Park Zoo's top supporters. Her affection for the zoo and its collection is rooted in years of visits with family and friends. She spent the past spring and summer working as an After School Matters intern at the South Pond, introducing visitors to the area¹s urban ecosystem and developing scripts for podcasts that will engage future visitors.
Saric's passion for poetry has resulted in a series of poems exploring nature themes and conservation efforts at the pond, several of which were featured at the 2007 South Pond Build & Grow Science & Project Fair. As she sums up, "I love Lincoln Park Zoo because it¹s the first zoo I visited as a kid, the first place I worked at and a place where I feel at ease."
The only thing missing from her resume was a zoo membership. Thanks to the generosity of a donor, though, Saric and her family are now the recipients of a ten-year Household Membership.
The gift came from the estate of Helen Jacob, a zoo supporter who expressed her desire to provide consecutive individual or family memberships for a worthy recipient. Education staff at the zoo immediately thought of Saric, and her family was welcomed as members in a small ceremony this summer.
Through their membership, Saric and family receive insider's information and up-to-date news on the institution they enjoy. They are grateful for the gift, and Saric harbors hopes of becoming a zoo insider herself again in the future. "If I could get another opportunity to work here," she says, "I would take it in a heartbeat."
