Nature Boardwalk at Lincoln Park Zoo Campaign

A comprehensive environmental and educational effort, the Nature Boardwalk at Lincoln Park Zoo will revitalize an essential water source—Lincoln Park’s South Pond—and create acres of restored prairie grasses and natural shores to protect native wildlife.

  Exploring Ape Behavior
Exploring Ape Behavior lets visitors experience the animal-behavior research conducted at the Lester E. Fisher Center for the Study and Conservation of Apes. The program culminates with visitors conducting their own behavioral observations of the zoo’s chimpanzees and gorillas. Participants come away with a better understanding of how zoo research helps us understand—and conserve—these amazing animals.

  Serengeti Health Initiative
Led by Lincoln Park Zoo, the Serengeti Health Initiative aims to preserve the African region's rich wildlife while also benefiting the people who live there. Incorporating wildlife surveillance, vaccination programs and research on how wild animals, domestic animals and humans interact, this collaborative conservation effort is dedicated to building a better understanding of the Serengeti ecosystem, one that will keep it healthy and whole.

  Malott Family Zoo Intern Program
Zoo education programs reach 140,000 students annually through formal and informal offerings on zoo grounds and in the community. The Malott Family Zoo Intern Program (ZIP) is central to Lincoln Park Zoo’s role as Chicago’s Living Classroom. ZIP helps at-risk teenagers develop critical life and work skills through a paid internship focusing on conservation and environmental stewardship. For many participants, the program offers their first experience with professional accountability, their first paycheck and their first time working in teams and with the public. Students learn leadership skills necessary to help their peers and serve as role models for zoo visitors, especially other young people.
