About John Flanders Jr.:
John Flanders, D.V.M. completed his undergraduate education in biology at the University of Missouri then earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2007. During that time, Flanders completed several preceptorships in zoo medicine at St. Louis Zoo, Kansas City Zoo and Cincinnati Zoo. Following graduation, he completed a yearlong internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at Oklahoma State University, which included several rotations through the Zoo, Exotics and Wildlife Department.
In July 2012, Flanders joined Lincoln Park Zoo’s veterinary residency program in zoological medicine, where he is pursuing board certification in both the American College of Zoological Medicine (ACZM) and the European College of Zoological Medicine (ECZM) under the mentorship of Lincoln Park Zoo’s Lester E. Director of Veterinary Medicine, Kathryn Gamble, D.V.M.
Flanders has a clinical interest in cardiology and is currently completing a review on cardiac disease in Francois’ langurs (Trachypithecus francoisi). Other research projects include the pharmacokinetics of anti-inflammatories and analgesics in black rhinoceroses (Diceros bicornis) and pathologies of non-wild smooth green snakes (Opheodrys vernalis).
