ComEd and Charter One Present ZooLights
Free holiday tradition is one of Chicago’s must-see seasonal events
(Chicago – Sept. 21, 2012) Lincoln Park Zoo is transformed into a winter wonderland during the annual ZooLights Presented by ComEd and Charter One beginning Nov. 23.
This free, family-oriented holiday celebration illuminates the sky with two million lights, including larger-than-life lighted animals and seasonal features, activities and sweet treats.
The first 1,000 visitors each night receive a free pair of 3D glasses for a truly magical light display experience. There will be photos with Santa in the Kovler Lion House through December 23, as well as holiday crafts and shopping. Some new features this year include giant character displays and glittering light tunnels.
Take a chilly spin on the AT&T Endangered Species Carousel, learn some pointers from ice sculpture experts, and be dazzled by a shimmering light show choreographed to holiday music on the zoo’s South Lawn.
ZooLights opens the Friday after Thanksgiving and runs every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday through December 23. Following Christmas, the winter wonderland is open nightly from December 26 – January 6. The fun runs from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
As an added bonus, there will be a special program offered for children ages 4 and 5 during select nights of ZooLights. Friday Night Lights: Polar Party provides kids an opportunity to explore the world of polar animals. Children will learn through play as they move and communicate like a penguin, get down to the roots of polar bear fur and imagine what life is like at the north and south poles. This special experience will take place on December 7 and 21 from 5:30–6:30 p.m. or 7–8 p.m. and is $16 ($13 for members). Advance registration is required. Visit www.lpzoo.org/education/programs. ZooLights 2012 is presented by ComEd and Charter One. The event is also sponsored by MINI of Chicago, WLIT-FM, Pepsi and United Airlines.
