Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Camp, held on Monday, January 16, offered exciting learning opportunities for animal and nature lovers in PreK–fourth grade. Each camp group explored the zoo and participated in a variety of activities focused on animal diversity, environmental conservation and the ways Lincoln Park Zoo cares for animals at the zoo and conserves them in the wild. The theme for this camp was “All About Birds.” From the brightly colored flamingo to the mohawked crested wood partridge, birds can have some unique appearances! But looks are only one of the curious characteristics of birds. Campers learned the reason European white storks clack their beaks and why hummingbirds build their nests using spider webs as they got an inside look at the charming lives of our feathered friends.
