A Living Classroom

As any parents out there are well aware, it’s back-to-school time. My boys are entering third and fifth grades and I grow more proud of them each day.

Here at Lincoln Park Zoo—this living, breathing, roaring classroom—our education initiatives continue in earnest.

Through our world-class education department, the zoo offers Chicagoland teachers curriculum materials that prompt them to include scientific animal lessons in their classrooms. The new Zoo Explorers field-trip program welcomes students to step into the shoes of zoologists and conduct animal studies.

We provide local teachers ZooTracks brochures, which they use during field trips to the zoo, facilitating discussion about wildlife and instructing students to perform tasks like zoo scientists.

Additionally, Lincoln Park Zoo hosts a wide array of programming on grounds to educate minds of all ages, from classes that enable kids to pretend to be zoo vets to tutorials on animal photography for adults.

And on September 27 we’re hosting an educator open house, when local teachers can partake in field-trip activities, learn about our online resources and collect copies of our latest curriculum materials.

You can learn about all of our education happenings here. And when new initiatives are launched, as always, I’ll keep you posted.

Sincerely,

Kevin Bell
