DESCRIPTION AND OBJECTIVES:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervise reporting staff in the planning, implementation and staffing of Public Programs Develop protocol and oversee use of resources, materials and educational methodologies used in program delivery Identify, conceptualize and initiate new programs that respond to current environmental/wildlife issues, audience demands and zoo needs Assist with the development and implementation of evaluation protocol; review data Develop and maintain marketing and publicity plans to promote Public Programs Build and maintain working relationships with key zoo departments, especially Membership, Collections, Conservation and Science, Guest Services and Events, as well as external organizations and partners that support programming initiatives Use appropriate technology to support and advance Public Programs Facilitate selected zoo programs; give presentations/workshops at professional conferences and local meetings Assist in development of multi-year business plan Assist in preparation and administration of annual operating budget Hire, train and evaluate reporting staff Generate quarterly reports about Public Programs Work with or handle program animals as required

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES Ability to operate zoo vehicles including electric arts and vans. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES. Working knowledge of PCs, using word processing, spread sheet and databases software. Ability to clearly communicate verbally and in writing. Ability to read and understand written and oral instructions. Ability to organize tasks and time to ensure timely completion of all projects. Ability to interact courteously and respectfully with supervisors, fellow employees, volunteers, zoo visitors and general public. Capable of being trained to handle program animals. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS A bachelor’s degree in education or the biological sciences from an accredited college or university is required; a master’s degree and/or experiences in zoo education is preferred. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Previous experience in teaching, program development and curriculum design; knowledge of education methods and materials appropriate for wide range of audience; skill in presenting ideas and information to groups and facilitating diverse groups in learning activities; ability to engage and motivate an audience. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS Available to work weekends, holidays and special events which may occur outside of regular work schedule as assigned.
