United Run for the Zoo at Lincoln Park Zoo

The United Run for Zoo is always a highlight on the Chicago running calendar. The race benefits Lincoln Park Zoo, helping to keep it free and open 365 days a year. In response to participant feedback, there are several changes and improvements in store for the 33rd annual edition of the race in 2015. Here are some of the highlights:

  • New Balance tech shirt for all 10K and 5K participants with gender-specific sizing
  • New and improved courses for both the 5K and 10K
  • New start times for the 5K and 10K
  • New start line procedure with pace signs and divisions for an improved start experience
  • New location for race day packet pick-up for an easier and more convenient experience
  • The Safari Stampede is back in 2015 by popular demand: this mini-obstacle course is designed specifically for kids to express their inner animal!

All USATF-certified 5K and 10K courses are scheduled to start on Stockton Drive and Webster Avenue at the zoo’s West Gate. The 10K will take participants onto the lakeshore path, traveling north to Belmont Harbor Drive, and loop around back, past Diversey Harbor, along the west side of the zoo, past the south pond at Nature Boardwalk, before entering the south gate and finishing through the zoo.

The 5K Run/Walk will take participants north through the Conservatory Gate, then head back south through the zoo, exiting by Café Brauer, then around the south part of the zoo before entering the south gate and finishing in the zoo. Walkers will be corralled behind runners.

The Safari Stampede mini obstacle course will be held on the South Lawn, near Park Place Café inside Lincoln Park Zoo gates.

No dogs allowed on course. Strollers are welcome, but runners must start at the back of the heat.

Safari Stampede (Sold Out)

The Safari Stampede is a mini obstacle course for kids to express their inner animal! Children ages 8 and under can participate in the Safari Stampede, located on the South Lawn near Park Place Café. Registration fees required; includes a special event-participation shirt! The Safari Stampede replaces the free Kids Dash from previous years. This event is now sold out! Thanks to everyone who registered for it!

Volunteers Needed

We need 200-plus volunteers to make this event successful! Volunteer positions include Packet Pick-Up, Finish Line, Course and the Water Station. Volunteers will receive a special souvenir T-shirt. Parking Information

Paid parking is available in the zoo’s parking lot on Cannon Drive for a special rate of $14. Parking is limited. Arrive early. Please visit this page for more information.

Pre-Register & Packet Pickup

You can register and pick up your packets prior to event day! You will receive your race bib, disposable timing chip, T-shirt and event information.

Race Day Registration and Packet Pick-Up

Packet pick-up will take place outside the zoo’s West Gate at the corner of Stockton Drive and Webster Avenue (next to the start line) starting at 6:30 a.m. Please arrive early to ensure accurate registration. Registration ends 15 minutes prior to each event.

Post-Race Party and Exposition Area

After the race, be sure to visit the Run for the Zoo post-party on the Main Mall! Enjoy refreshments and sponsor giveaways. All Run for the Zoo participants will receive a slice of Aurelio’s pizza. Participants who are 21 years or older can celebrate with a beer, compliments of Lagunitas Brewing.

Tech Top Sizing

New Balance Tech Tops for Lincoln Park Zoo's United Run for the Zoo

New Balance tech shirts will be offered in men’s and women’s sizing once again for all 5K and 10K participants.

Desired T-shirt size is not guaranteed. Sorry, no T-shirt exchanges!

Safari Stampede T-shirts are unisex and available in youth small, medium and large sizes.
