Sundays, September 4, 11, 18 & 25, 2011
Thank for joining us in recognizing the zoo's seniors! To celebrate Grandparent’s Day, Lincoln Park Zoo dedicated Sundays in September to honoring our own senior citizens. Elder-statesmen chats showcased the zoo’s lifelong commitment to well-being. Guests learned how specialized care helps geriatric animals live longer, healthier lives than ever before.

Grannies on Safari at Lincoln Park Zoo
The stars of PBS' “Grannies on Safari” joined us on Friday, September 2 to kick-off the zoo's month-long focus on Celebrating Seniors.
The Grannies have traveled the globe, igniting a passion for exploration and adventure for all ages. For granny Regina Fraser, one of those trips many years ago helped the zoo transport lions from South Africa. One of those lions, Adelor, was a zoo icon for many years.
As a special bonus, the Grannies on Safari gave away all-leather Antler wallets to the first 20 AARP members who visited them!
Celebrating Seniors—Guam Micronesian Kingfishers
We close our month of Celebrating Seniors by looking at the zoo’s Guam Micronesian kingfishers. They may not be geriatric, but these endangered birds have 52 grandkids between them!
Celebrating Seniors—African Wild Dogs
The two-dog pack may be aging, but expert care ensures the zoo’s African wild dogs can still sniff out scents…and a good nap.
Celebrating Seniors—Western Lowland Gorilla
See how dietary changes and extra exercise helped silverback gorilla JoJo stay healthy in his top spot.
