Lisa Faust, Ph.D.
As part of her responsibilities as research biologist, Faust is responsible for coordinating the zoo’s research internship program, the review of internal and external research, and for conducting research in applied population biology. She is also a member of American Zoo and Aquarium Association’s Small Population Management Advisory Group (SPMAG). She has helped to develop ZooRisk, a risk-assessment software program for captive populations, and is developing database management software for captive populations. Her current research includes development of individual-based models for projecting captive and wild population dynamics, including captive elephant populations, wild elephants in Tarangire National Park, and captive western lowland gorillas. Her research also focuses on comparative analysis of demographic patterns across populations and software development for captive population management. Lisa
Faust received her B.A. in biology from Grinnell College in 1997 and
is a Ph.D. candidate in Ecology and Evolution at the University
of Illinois-Chicago. Her dissertation research focuses
on applied demography for captive and wild populations.
