Here's one of the AHC Stars in action:
Dana Buoscio, D.V.M., Diplomate ACVIM (Cardiology)
For 20 years, Dr. Buoscio has been the owner of Chicagoland Veterinary Cardiology, P.C., which she founded in 1993 as a mobile veterinary consultation practice serving Chicago and the surrounding suburbs.
Following graduation from veterinary school in 1989 at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Dr. Buoscio completed an internship in Small Animal Medicine & Surgery at Michigan State University then returned to her veterinary alma mater as a cardiology resident. She became a specialist in the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in cardiology.
With her practice goal of bringing cardiology expertise to underserved areas within and around Chicago, she performs diagnostic cardiac patient examinations utilizing her own specialized ultrasound. As these echocardiograms are performed within the local veterinary hospitals, the patients are in their familiar surroundings. The results of these tests and interpretation of other tests done by the primary veterinarian are used to arrive at a diagnosis and treatment plan for the patients.
Dr. Buoscio has served as a cardiology consultant for the last six years for Lincoln Park Zoo and has also consulted with Brookfield Zoo and the Shedd Aquarium. She enjoys the challenge of applying her knowledge of cardiology to a variety of more unusual animal species—including the juvenile cinereous vulture that hatched this year with a congenital cardiac issue. She is always amazed on her visits to Lincoln Park Zoo with the extremely organized staff and efficient manner in which so many important non-invasive diagnostic tests are performed very quickly to safely obtain vital health information on the zoo patients.
