Kathryn Gamble, D.V.M., received each of her degrees from Texas A&M University: a bachelor's in veterinary science (1989), doctor of veterinary medicine (1992) and master's in clinical pharmacology (1995). After 10 years as an associate veterinarian with the Dallas Zoo and Aquarium, she joined the staff of Lincoln Park Zoo as director of Veterinary Services in 2002. In 1999 she achieved Diplomate status with the American College of Zoological Medicine (ACZM).
As director of Veterinary Services, Gamble is responsible for coordinating veterinary research, including studies conducted by veterinarians, veterinary technicians, the nutrition manager, keepers and veterinary preceptors. Her research role also includes overseeing sample acquisition during routine veterinary clinical duties.
Gamble serves as veterinary advisor for the Chimpanzee Species Survival Plan (SSP), Buceroes SSP and Coraciiformes Taxon Advisory Group. As an evaluator of published literature, she has been an associate editor for the Journal of Zoo and Wildlife Medicine since 2001. She has collaborated with other Lincoln Park Zoo researchers to develop a computerized evaluation for risk factors of mycobacteriosis in avian species, and her research projects include clinical case medicine, analgesia options for reptiles, squamous cell carcinoma in hornbills and distemper virus in phocid seals.
