A New Gibbon

I'd like to thank all those who visited ZooLights Presented by ComEd and Charter One this year. It was a great run. We’d love to hear your feedback, which will make ZooLights 2011 even better.

Please take the short survey here.

We have some exciting animal news. I am happy to announce the birth of a white-cheeked gibbon this week at the Helen Brach Primate House. As white-cheeked gibbons are a critically endangered species, all additions to the zoo population are important. But when they happen at your institution zoo, it's particularly special.
Like all primate lovers, I'll be interested to see what gender this little one is. If it's male, the white coat will turn dark in a few years. If female, it will undergo a mottled phase before returning to buff-colored like mom.

Until then, as always, I'll keep you posted.
