Meet the Murres

Here’s one of four common murre chicks to hatch this year at the Kovler Penguin/Seabird House. The new arrivals hatched June 25; this picture was taken 10 days after they emerged from the egg.

The four new arrivals represent the most fruitful breeding season for common murres at the zoo. Each pair was recommended to breed by common murre population manager Christine Fuehrmeyer, who is a lead keeper at the zoo.

Celebrating 50 Years at Gombe

Lincoln Park Zoo is proud to note that today marks the 50th anniversary of Jane Goodall beginning her groundbreaking research at Tanzania's Gombe National Park. A Bet Settled (and Animals Benefit)

Philadelphia Zoo President and CEO Vik Dewan donned a Blackhawks jersey and served visitors Chicago-style hot dogs to settle a Stanley Cup bet with Lincoln Park Zoo President and CEO Kevin Bell. The Philadelphia Zoo will also donate funds to a conservation project to help save birds affected by the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

Free Fun on the Main Mall This Friday

Lincoln Park Zoo is proud to host the WTTW Readers Are Leaders summer tour! This special event will feature stories and songs from special guest Miss Lori, from Miss Lori’s CAMPUS.

This free performance, taking place on the zoo’s Main Mall, is perfect for families with children in preschool through early elementary school. The first 200 children in the audience will receive a goody bag with a free children’s book.
