Urban Wildlife Biologists

Saturday's Urban Wildlife Biologists program will introduce third-fourth graders to the birds and bugs at Nature Boardwalk. After learning about local wildlife, the kids will conduct their own outdoor experiments.

Celebrating Seniors—Chimpanzee

As the oldest chimpanzee in an Association of Zoos and Aquariums facility, 53-year-old Keo has the normal problems we primates face as we age. He’s developing a cataract in one eye. He moves a bit more slowly these days. His cardiac health is being monitored. And he soaks his biscuits to soften them before he bites.

But, like those of us in our golden years, he receives medical care to mitigate these problems. At his routine physical exam in October, an ophthalmologist will exam that cataract and a team of cardiologists will be present to check his heart.

Next Saturday third and fourth graders can come to the zoo to see what it takes to be an Urban Wildlife Biologist! While exploring the birds and bugs of Nature Boardwalk at Lincoln Park Zoo, they’ll conduct their own experiments to see what scientists are doing to study and protect Chicago wildlife.
