Thank You, Zoo Volunteers!

It’s National Volunteer Appreciation Week! That’s a big deal at Lincoln Park Zoo where volunteers contribute in a variety of ways 365 days a year.

Farm-in-the-Zoo volunteer Sherry Ginsburg shows a vermicomposting bin to young visitors at Lincoln Park Zoo

Take Sherry Ginsburg, for example. Whether introducing visitors to Holstein dairy cows or smaller critters like worms in the vermicomposting program (pictured here), this Farm-in-the-Zoo volunteer makes a big difference connecting city kids to rural life.

Ginsburg, a zoo volunteer for 26 years, is just one of many volunteer heroes whose efforts we salute during National Volunteer Appreciation Week. Volunteers help us educate, greet and direct guests, tend gardens, sell gift shop souvenirs and much more. They help keep Chicago’s landmark zoo open and free 365 days a year and make memorable experiences for visitors of all ages.

If you visit the zoo this week, we encourage you to thank Sherry and all our volunteers for their amazing service!
