Smooth green snakes are small in size but big in importance to restoring prairie habitat in northern Illinois.

Smooth green snake reintroduced to northern Illinois prairie by Lincoln Park Zoo biologists

Join us at Wine & Wildlife: Prairie Pioneers on Thursday evening, April 24, to learn how biologists from Lincoln Park Zoo, Lake County Forest Preserve District and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service are collaborating to help smooth green snakes, ornate box turtles and meadow jumping mice populations recover.

Enjoy a presentation by the experts who oversee this important initiative—from “head start” breeding programs to field surveys—while sipping wine in the immersive mixed-species Ecosystem exhibit at Regenstein Small Mammal-Reptile House.
