These are beautiful pictures!

We recently saw a raptor in the South Loop. It had caught a pigeon and was standing on it. We were so amazed we pulled over to get a better look and snap a picture. We didn't know the name of the bird until now. We had been scanning the internet trying to match the picture we had taken. My children were so delighted to see something so special in the city!

I live in Rogers Park near the lake and on the top floor of a 3-story courtyard building. A few years back, after "the big snow storm," I was shoveling out my back porch/deck in the post-storm clear blue skies. Across the alley in the 3rd floor window sill of a neighboring building, only 30-50 feet away was a peregrine snacking on a recent kill. With all the white snow around, it was really beautiful and I sat and watched them go about their business for quite some time. It's the natural cycle of life!

HI! Not only do we have regular visits by the cooper's hawk in our back yard, the other day a long eared owl was perched in our hawthorn tree, scouting out some picket mice we have living in the yard. He was spectacular!! His flight was literally silent and his wing span was about as wide as the cooper's hawk. We live in the city close to the forest preserve and a golf course. The wild life is very abundant here as well, kind of like a small oasis for the oppossum, raccoons, field mice, deer, and a small group of coyote to keep things in proportion. I enjoy your articles and the boardwalk, but I must be honest and say, during the winter months, I choose to stay in and look out my back window. We will be back to visit the boardwalk in spring!!!
