Honoring a Zoo Icon
On Saturday, the zoo unveiled its latest sculpture: a life-sized bronze statue of beloved African lion Adelor, who prowled the Kovler Lion House from 1995–2012. Located at the zoo’s East Gate and funded by an anonymous friend of the zoo, it reproduces the big cat’s imposing presence down to his cleft chin and faint scars on his nose.
Unlike its living counterparts, this piece of art is meant to be touched. It was created by local artists by Anna Koh Varilla and Jeffrey H. Varilla.
