Happy Birthday to Keo!

Yesterday marked the 54th birthday of chimpanzee Keo! Fisher Center Director Steve Ross, Ph.D., shares this photo, noting that Keo is the oldest male chimpanzee living in a zoo accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.

Specialized care helps geriatric animals live longer, healthier lives than ever before.

lincoln park zooEssie, Keo came to Lincoln Park Zoo from the wild when he was an infant, a practice that no longer takes place. He's spent nearly all his life at the zoo, and has produced offspring.

Right now he spends most of his time with his chimpanzee group behind the scenes, but he occasionally goes on exhibit at Regenstein Center for African Apes--as he has now!
