The Auxiliary Board of Lincoln Park Zoo held its signature annual fundraiser, Zoo-ologie, on Saturday, May 18. This year’s ancient Rome-inspired theme, Sumus Animalia, framed another rousing success.

Our Photo of the Week also acts to wrap up Endangered Species Day: two members of our all-female African wild dog pack nuzzle one another at Regenstein African Journey. This social species is endangered in the wild due to habitat loss, hunting and disease.
For Endangered Species Day, Curator of Mammals Mark Kamhout reflects on the privilege of working with one of the zoo’s more endangered—and imposing—species: black rhinos.
Today is Endangered Species day! To mark the occasion, Kris Lah from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will be talking with guests about efforts to conserve endangered species in northeastern Illinois. See him near Regenstein Birds of Prey Exhibit from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., and hear about zoo conservation partnerships including eastern massasauga rattlesnakes, bald eagles, black-crowned night herons and piping plovers (pictured below).
