Accolades and a Polar Bear Update

Last week I mentioned the Distinguished Building Award granted Nature Boardwalk at Lincoln Park Zoo by the Chicago chapter of the American Institute of Architects.

This week I am proud to announce that Nature Boardwalk was granted the Illinois Governor’s Sustainability Award, presented by the Illinois Sustainable Technology Center and the Office of the Governor.

The wild oasis was honored for significant achievement in protecting the environment, helping sustain the future and improving the economy. Lincoln Park Zoo, along with everyone who helped make Nature Boardwalk a reality, is proud to receive this prestigious award for the first time.

In animal news, I must notify bear fans that our polar bear will be off exhibit next week while her habitat is cleaned and repaired. The pool will be emptied, enabling crews to work and guests to get a rare, clear view of the massive space that is normally occupied by thousands of gallons of water and 650-pounds of polar bear.

Before we know it, the exhibit will be rehabbed, the pool will be filled and the big bear will again be thrilling guests. As always, I’ll keep you posted.

Sincerely,
Kevin Bell
