Construction Project Bidding

Looking to bid on construction projects at Lincoln Park Zoo?

If so, you have found the right website. We have several projects coming up and we are inviting qualified contractors to submit bids. If you are interested, please follow these steps.

  1. Review project descriptions
    Review projects described below and see which one(s) your company wishes to bid on.
  2. Download “Bid Requirements” document
    Be sure to download, print, review, and then sign this document. Then bring the document with you to one of the presentations.

  3. Download “Insurance Requirements” document
    Be sure to download, review, and send this document off to your insurance company so they can issue a certificate of insurance. Then bring the Certificate of Insurance with you to the presentation or bring a letter from your insurance company stating that you have the required insurance needed.

  4. Come to presentation
    We will have a presentation for each project. During this presentation, we will discuss the specifics, perform a site walk through, and go over exactly what we are looking for. Additional paperwork will be provided at these presentations including specific measurements and drawings (where applicable). It is imperative that you attend the meeting in order to obtain this information.
  5. Ask Questions
    If you have questions, please email the questions to Construction@LPZoo.org and be sure to specify the project’s name in the subject of the email. All questions will be addressed via email.
  6. Submit a bid
    Be sure to submit the bid before the deadline.

Sea Lion Pool
We will be replacing our chiller / compressor unit for cooling the water as well as our computer system (Building Automation System).

Wild Things Building
We will be replacing the canopy awning roofing system with a retractable roof and adding side walls. We will also be doing replacement of several areas of the roofing membrane for the gift shop.

Farm-in-the-Zoo Path
This project will include the installation of new asphalt paving as well as permeable brick pavers to create a smooth surface for our visitors and include an eco-friendly drainage program to help with the water runoff.

Fencing Project in the Parking Lot
We are looking to replace several hundred feet of fencing along the employee parking lot, including swing gates, receiving dock gates and adding mesh behind. We want the gate to match our existing exterior fence.

McCormick Bird House Free Flight Area
This is a plumbing project which will include the installation of a new hot water steam boiler system (for domestic hot water) with a heat exchanger. This will include some new duct work for the exhaust. Additionally, there will be some revamping of our plumbing and pump system in the free flight pond area of the building so that it can re-circulate water to the waterfall.

Kovler Sea Lion Pool
There are several water leaks which need to be found and repaired. We’ll also need to do some renovations on the pool surface itself and on the rocks and exhibit work.

Powerhouse Project
The roof and sky lights in the powerhouse building need to be replaced to ensure that this critical service space remains usable in the future. Additionally, depending on cost we may complete some interior remodeling as well.

Pritzker Family Children Zoo Climbing Structure
The climbing structure was installed about five years ago and is a very popular attraction for kids. This fall / winter the project will include basically removing the structure and completing a total overhaul by replacing the cabling, carpeting/ flooring material and fasteners. We will need a new system for securing the cabling, allowing us to utilize the newest technologies available and reducing our on-going maintenance costs.

Regenstein Center for African Apes Gorilla Exhibit
The Gorilla Exhibit has had problems with erosion. Basically, the slope of the yard is pretty steep which has caused the soil to erode into the moat area. In order to fix this, we will perform structural improvements to this exhibit. This will be exhibit construction work including some landscaping.
